Katherine Mourtos
Kathy Mourtos is the President of KM Business Directions. As a business manager, she brings to her clients more than 20 years of experience in corporate, non-profit, and private business operations and management having held positions in senior management in the areas of operations, sales and human resources management.
Her success and entrepreneurial spirit came at a young age. By 21, she was appointed to a management position with a major Canadian bank. She held the Assistant Branch Manager position at a commercial branch focusing on small business solutions and later went on to become and investment manager with the same bank.
In 1998, Kathy took a program management position with Junior Achievement (JA), focusing on youth small business enterprises. As a result of enhancements she made to one of JA’s business programs, Kathy won the Junior Achievement International Innovation Award in 2001. The not-for-profit organization at the time ran in about 90 countries.
Kathy was promoted to Director of Programs for the Junior Achievement international office in Atlanta, Georgia for the next three years. In this position, she worked with international offices to implement youth business programs, and managed youth entrepreneur events globally. Subsequently, she was promoted to Vice President of International Programs.
Upon return to Canada, Kathy was offered a position to manage the operations of a small, growing business. Kathy was responsible for setting up the business operations, internal departmental structures, including the human resources and accounting departments, and managing the growth of these departments and leadership staff. With Kathy’s support, the owner was able to focus on business development. In just over two years, the company grew exponentially across Canada and into the US, growing from seven employees to 25, and relocated twice.
Kathy later returned to Toronto and took a position as Vice President, Programs and Volunteer Management at Junior Achievement. However, her passion was to operate her own business. In 2007, Kathy launched KM Business Directions and has never looked back.
Over the years, Kathy has honed her skills in general accounting, HR practices, and back-end business operations all the while striving for the highest ethical business standards. Her strengths include business development, strategic planning, and creating resources and tools for efficiency of her client’s companies.
Kathy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto.
